Tech Talk - Chromebook Care
One of the benefits of belonging to New Code academy is that all students have access to an Acer Chromebook with two cameras. All of our devices are currently less than two years old and were selected because of their ability to handle the workload of online students.
With proper care and feeding, these devices can last around seven years without issue. Today, we’ll look at ways to keep your student’s device working at it’s best. Proper feeding of your Chromebook requires plugging it in every night and making sure it gets fully charged. Chromebooks are happiest when they are charged to a full battery.
What is the best way to care for the Chromebook? There are two factors to consider: the physical care of the device and care of the inner workings of the computer. Let’s start with the physical device care.
Chromebooks should always be carried with two hands and never by the screen. It is always best to close the Chromebook before carrying to best protect the screen. Food and drink are very harmful to the device, so please do not keep your snacks and drinks near your device. Find a safe place to charge your device. Avoid places where pets, small children or others can trip over the cord, step on, or play with the device. There are fines for physical damage to the Chromebooks, so having students learn proper care will help them avoid these types of fines.
When talking about the inner workings of the Chromebook, we are talking about things like charging the device, clearing the cache, making sure the device is updated regularly, removing the user, and fully shutting down the Chromebook at least once each week. This will prevent the device’s memory from slowing down, affecting how well students can attend and participate in class. The links below will show you how to do this:
-Remove the User - Do this once a week or when Chromebook won’t start.
-Chrome Update - Check for these about once a month.
-Clear Your Cache - Do this about once a month.
